“We lived in a charming old farmhouse and were ready to give up housework, but not the house. We have found we are enjoying our retirement life and are so involved with so many things. You can be as busy as you want or do as little as you want.” Pat Coleman, Resident, formerly of Connecticut

Spiritual Life

As a faith-based, Not-For-Profit Continuing Care Retirement Community, Westminster at Lake Ridge is committed to providing opportunities for worship to residents of all faiths.  Westminster at Lake Ridge offers many opportunities for worship, spiritual learning and service. We hope residents will maintain connection with their own congregation and participate to the extent possible. If distance makes participation impossible there are local congregations ready to be your spiritual “home.” Clergy are encouraged to visit their own members and to keep in touch. Clergy and church musicians are welcome to participate in our worship life.

Westminster at Lake Ridge receives much support from area congregations and we like to “give back” in the areas of:

  • Speakers on issues related to aging
  • Support for lay visitors, Stephen Ministers, Deacons
  • Consultation for clergy and health ministry teams
  • Pulpit supply by our chaplain

Opportunities to Worship:

Christian worship is offered every Sunday afternoon in our chapel and in the health care center.

Volunteers from St Elizabeth Ann Seton Roman Catholic Parish bring the Eucharist on Sunday morning to the Chapel and to individual residents in health care. Catholic Mass is celebrated once a month in the chapel.

On major Christian holidays special services are designed by our Chapel Committee.
During the week residents design and lead worship opportunities from their various traditions—rosary group, Episcopalian worship, evening prayer (Compline), hymn-sings and other events as requested.

Jewish residents are encouraged to celebrate holidays with family or the nearby synagogues. Resources for Jewish worship are available from the chaplain.

The chapel is open for individual mediation and prayer.

Opportunities to Learn:

Residents and local clergy lead several Bible study groups. The chaplain offers classes and workshops several times a year.

Opportunities to Serve:

Westminster residents are generous in giving time and talents to support the Chapel and religious programs at Westminster. The resident-led Chapel Committee establishes the policy and program for religious activities presented at Westminster at Lake Ridge in response to the needs of those who live here.

Monetary offerings from Sunday worship are given to interfaith local and world missions selected by the Chapel Committee. In December residents gather special gifts for Heifer Project International, providing animals as a source of income and food to low income families in our country and around the world.
